According to a study in Japan at least astounding, eating ice at breakfast would improve alertness and mental performance.
As part of this study, Professor Yoshihiko Koga of Kyorin University had ice cream cooked by testers immediately after waking up.
The latter were then invited to do computer exercises. Ice eaters showed faster reaction times and better information processing capabilities than guinea pigs who had not eaten ice, the study concludes.
And this is not the effect of cold
Monitoring of the brain activity of ice-eaters revealed an increase in high-frequency alpha waves, which are linked to high levels of alertness and a reduction in mental irritation. And this vigilance would not only be the effect of the cold: Professor Yoshihiko Koga took care to renew the experiment with ice water, which was found to be less beneficial than ice cream.
