A stereotype of a Chinese vehicle landed on the moon in 2013
BEIJING (Reuters) - China is making "initial" preparations to send humans to the moon, the latest target of China's ambitious moon exploration program, a senior Chinese space official said on Monday.
In 2003, China became the third country to send a man into space with its own missile after the former Soviet Union and the United States.
China is also planning to send the first probe of the dark side of the moon in 2018, another big step.
"It will not take long to get official approval and funding," Yang Liwei, deputy director-general of China's manned space agency and China's first astronaut, was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying.
The IAEA report did not give further details, but such a trip could take years before it starts.
